Black Male Student Research Team

Joshua Valcourt
Final year Honours student in Psychology at Concordia University
During his undergraduate degree, Joshua volunteered in multiple laboratories with diverse research interests. In the Sleep, Cognition and Neuroimaging laboratory, he collected sleep data for different projects, such as one study investigating how narcolepsy influences cognitive functioning. In the Multilingualism laboratory, Joshua completed a summer research internship examining the experiences of clinical students and clinical supervisors in French supervision groups within the clinical psychology program at Concordia University. In the Culture, Health and Personality laboratory, Joshua is completing his honours thesis under the supervision of Dr. Ryder and Dr. Chiromo, exploring the beliefs Haitians living in Montreal have about mental well-being and depression. In addition to his honours thesis research, Joshua volunteers on the Concordia Minority Mental Health Research project. His keen interest in Black mental health and access to mental health care in the Black community led him to invest some time in the Black male focus group.
During his leisure time, Joshua enjoys listening and dancing to various genres, including Konpa, Zouk and Afrobeats.
